A subterranean West Village cocktail bar opened in 2005 by the late Sasha Petraske, and a cornerstone of New York's craft-cocktail revival. Vested bartenders build classics and dealer's-choice drinks in a dim, low-ceilinged room, with live jazz most nights. Descend the stairs at Seventh Avenue South and Leroy for one of the city's most serious cocktail rooms; the house rule is no hats on men.
